New LED module for St Pauls's Cathedral handrail

New LED module for St Pauls's Cathedral handrail
We're always learning; because LEDs need a good heat-sink some of us thought this tiny 16mm diameter LED module was just too small. However at 350mA the Cree XRE LED it uses is very efficient, producing 70% of light output while consuming 40% of power compared to running them at 700mA; so at 350mA they do not create much heat.

It takes only a small heat-sink to efficiently dissipate that heat and this module is big enough. We're below thermal saturation. If we were to run the modules at 500mA or 700mA there is a bigger difference and the module would thermally saturate.

The tiny LED module was a special designed with Speirs and Major Associates for a handrail at St Paul's Cathedral. Our standard 25mm diameter LED Module also uses a Cree XRE and can be run at 500mA. It may be bigger, but it is also rebuildable and has optics that can be changed on site.
