Fluorescent luminaires withstand temperatures down to -50°C

Fluorescent luminaires withstand temperatures down to -50°C
The Pracht Arktis and Alaska luminaires from Sill Lighting are remarkable as they can perform at temperatures as low as -25°C for Alaska, and down to a chilly -50°C for the Arktis. These are temperatures where the lamps in normal fluorescent fittings would almost have stopped working.

Similar in looks and design, the Alaska cold storage luminaire delivers almost full light output of the lamp in cold temperature of -25°C, whilst the Arktis extends this down to -35°C.

The luminaires are purpose built for all manner of cold storage applications including deep freeze units, cooling rooms, the dairy industry, meat and seafood processing factories, abattoirs, warehouses with sub-zero temperatures and many cold exterior applications.

Each luminaire is designed with good thermal insulation to achieve the performance, the Alaska featuring a ‘Duo' system with the fully enclosed diffusers made from clear acrylic glass (PMMA) and with the fluorescent tube itself sheathed in clear acrylic. The extra cold temperature performance of the Arktis luminaire is made possible through a similar fully enclosed outer diffuser but with double walled clear acrylic sheathing around the fluorescent lamp making for a ‘Trio' system. The ‘Duo' and ‘Trio' systems are further assisted by Pracht's cold contact ignition systems for longer service life of the fluorescent lamps.

Like all Pracht fluorescent luminaires, the Alaska and Arktis luminaire bodies are made from white fibreglass reinforced polyester, resistant to acids and alkalines and as IP65 Class 2 fittings are dustproof and jet proof.

The reflector systems are sealed and adjustable and come in wide beam and narrow beam versions. The luminaires are designed for T8 lamps and are available as either single 18W, 36W or 58W fittings or twin 36W or 58W versions.
One of the hallmarks of Pracht luminaire design is their ability to be easily fitted by electrical contractors. They can be quickly fitted by one person using the Pracht clip system and its variable mounting points, and lamp changing is a single handed operation as push fit lamp holders either feature retaining straps or an integral thumb screw.

Both luminaires are made to a high specification with silicone seals and silver plated contacts for durability and long life.
