The new DALI–MSensor multi sensor, from lighting control experts TridonicAtco, combines presence detection with ambient light dependent control. These sensors greatly simplify the control of individual luminaires based on demand, to provide visual comfort, suitability to the tasks being performed and energy efficiency, which are the three most important criteria that lighting systems have to meet. The DALI–MSensor combines the function of a light sensor with that of a PIR motion detector. The light sensor measures the ambient brightness, in other words the natural daylight and the artificial light in the surrounding area so that the lighting can be adjusted to the required level, whilst the motion detector detects the presence of people in the room. These two functions form the basis for ambient light dependent control.
Task specific options are available for installation in luminaires, suspended ceilings, concealed boxes and also surface mounting. The DALI–MSensor for luminaire installation is a small unit with a diameter of just 46mm, making it almost invisible when integrated into a luminaire.
The DALI–MSensor designed for installation in concealed boxes and suspended ceilings offers different benefits, as it can be swivelled through 15° which increases the detection range by two metres.
This sensor also allows the detection area to be adjusted with great accuracy. The surface mounting version is ideal for retro–fitting.
The DALI–MSensor can easily be configured by remote control by utilising the IR–SMART controller and the DALI–RC remote control. The IR–SMART controller, which focuses on a single lighting group, can be used to activate or deactivate automatic lighting control and define the reference value for the lighting level. The DALI–RC remote control can also be used as a programming tool for the entire system. Four static scenes are programmed into the DALI–MSensor at TridonicAtco's factory, although these can be replaced by regulated scenes with the aid of the configuration software.
By detecting both ambient brightness and presence, the DALI–MSensor ensures that the right illumination and atmosphere is created in the room to complement the particular task being performed.
