Mike Stoane Lighting launched a new range of LED exterior products at the ARC06 architectural, retail and corporate lighting show in London during February. Like their existing Tadpole fitting, the new products Toadstool, Bulrush and Snowdrop all utilize the long life and low maintenance requirements of the lumiled LED. Designed to create atmosphere and mood outdoors, they are about enjoying relative darkness; using light carefully with consideration for energy consumption and light pollution. Low to the ground, Toadstool has an aluminium cap which reflects a moody pool of light on to the ground below. Bulrush and Snowdrop are designed for defining paths and borders. Bulrush gives a diffused symmetrical distribution of light, whereas the snowdrop throws a pool of light on to the ground.
1w lumileds are available in bright cool white or warm white. Power supply is via a 350mA LED driver and the units are usually wired in groups of 3-7. Because of the very low currents and voltages involved the cables required are very small and can be run just a few cm beneath the ground. Alternatively for temporary of occasional use each fitting can be supplied from 3AA batteries. They are also working on versions to use 2w, 3w and 5w LEDs.
