Megaman UK took the opportunity to demonstrate their new and innovative range of energy saving lamps at the opening of their sales and distribution centre at Mytholmroyd, near Halifax last month.
The range includes extra safe CFL candle lamps which not only give the energy saving benefits associated with compact fluorescent but are also designed with safety and the environment in mind.
The Megaman lamps incorporate a silicone sleeve over the glass envelope making these the first safety energy saving lamps in the world. As such, they offer all of the environmental benefits of GLS replacement compact fluorescent light sources with the additional peace of mind of integrated safety features.
The silicone sleeve acts as a safety shield against flying glass, in the event of the lamp being shattered. In addition, it prevents the mercury from the lamp escaping into the environment before the lamp is disposed of properly. Environmental impact is also minimised by Megaman's low mercury content design, with less than 3mg per lamp.
A further benefit is that the sleeve replaces traditional frosting methods, which use non-environmentally friendly etching techniques to create a frosty appearance.
Megaman's new facility is situated within easy distance of the M62 and M1 motorways for fast deliveries nationwide and provides increased warehousing space, as well as additional technical resources. The Mytholmroyd premises also provides the company with extra office space so that the entire sales function can be housed in one location to ensure a faster response to customers.
"The changes to the Building Regulations and the imminent launch of the Energy Performance of Buildings Directive has reinforced the need for energy efficiency and increased demand for our innovative, energy-saving lighting products," explained managing director John Murphy.
"With these extended warehousing facilities we have been able to increase our stockholding to meet this increased demand while maintaining the fast, reliable service our customers have come to expect. The new facility also accommodates enhanced technical resources for sampling and testing of products, which forms an integral part of our strict quality assurance regime," he added.
Since entering the UK market, Megaman's innovative compact fluorescent designs have made major inroads into applications that have traditionally been the preserve of incandescent lamps. These include replacements for GU1O halogen spotlights, as well as energy-efficient alternatives to standard and decorative GLS lamps.
