A unique work of art with high-tech automotive lampsMore than 70 masts each with two or four BMW headlights equipped with HID headlights lamps from Osram are forming now a unique work of art in the Petuel park Munich. This new park is above a traffic tunnel which has been constructed to relocate a part of Munichs arteries underground.
It's no secret that Osram is the world market leader in automotive lamps and is used by almost all car manufacturers as an original equipment supplier. "What is new is that we are applying our know-how in automotive lighting to an artistic project," said Osram boss Dr. Wolf-Dieter Bopst. He was extremely impressed by the innovative approach taken by Dietmar Tanterl in which the light from road traffic, which now flows underneath the park, is now symbolically brought to the surface, offering illumination with an urban feel.
The "Petuel park art project" is the first sculpture park in Germany with works of art based on automotive lighting and automotive technology. The artwork created by Dietmar Tanterl comprises more than 70 masts, each featuring two or four BMW headlights equipped with Xenarc lamps from Osram. These masts are used instead of conventional lighting. The modern form of the xenon masts gives the park an incomparable air of excitement; artistic creativity and technical know-how are blended to produce a unique piece of art that unites lighting and landscape.
In the Petuel park project, Osram Light Consulting was responsible for the basic design of the light masts and for ensuring that the Xenarc lamps, which normally run on the 12 V in-car supply, could run on 230 V ac. Founded in 1986 as a subsidiary of Osram GmbH, Osram Light Consulting GmbH is responsible for planning lighting systems in all sectors. Together with its customers, it develops lighting solutions that meet high technical and design standards and that comply with stringent economical and ecological requirements.
