Concord, part of Havells Sylvania, were delighted to work with British business class airline Silverjet to provide the extensive lighting system required for their new facilities at Luton. Silverjet is the first British airline to offer a low fare, exclusively business class, transatlantic service. Launched in January 2007, Silverjet's dedicated terminal at London's Luton Airport provides fast check-in, security and boarding processes. Concord's design team, in conjunction with architects, HW Design fulfilled Silverjet's requirements and lit all key areas of the terminal including departure and arrival lounges, office and meeting rooms as well as the passenger bar area.
The general lighting throughout the terminal was provided by Concord's Kometa 600, an innovative 600x600mm recessed luminaire. Its circular form houses a combination of compact fluorescents and circular T5 and is based within a standard 600x600mm-ceiling tile. The two sets of lamps can be independently switched or dimmed to create a variety of different environmental moods for Silverjet passengers.
The 40W circular T5 ambient lighting component, hidden within a highly effective polycarbonate diffuser, drops just below the ceiling plane to throw diffuse light on the ceiling and wall, while the single TC-TEL lamp (26W or 32W) mounted within the central open reflector ring, acts as a direct downlight component.
To complement the Kometa 600 luminaire, throughout the terminal, LED-100 TE, dimmable compact fluorescents downlights were used. LED-100TE has a 1 – 10V dimmable electronic gear, combined with fluorescent lamps, which provides Silverjet with an energy-efficient and lighting system offering variable lights. A number of LED-100TE luminaires with blue gel floating glass rings, light the secluded Dunhill Den – where travellers can relax away from the main lounge area.
