Lighting Makeover for House of Fraser Hull

Lighting Makeover for House of Fraser Hull
Gamma Illumination drew on their bespoke design and development capabilities to tackle some quite specific lighting problems at the House of Fraser store in Hull.

The aim was to increase general lighting levels on the ground and lower ground sales floors, and also to increase the flexibility of the lighting in certain departments, however the presence of a solid ceiling ruled out the use of conventional downlights.

Old fashioned and inefficient fluorescent modulars on the ground floor were superseded by bespoke replacement units, incorporating new generation Philips PL-L fluorescent lamps with an additional Topaz adjustable spotlight at each corner.

This combination fitting provided an increase in overall light levels while providing additional directional light to selected areas or displays.

The lower ground floor is predominantly men's fashion concessions. Again the solid roof meant that the selected mix of Topaz 176 downlights and Topaz 115 G-spot adjustable lights were mounted in a purpose built treadplate style tray systems, which were then suspended from the ceiling using steel cable.

Exposed control gear added to the contemporary urban styling, consistent with other store features.

Ceramic metal halide lamps were chosen for the spotlights to give enhanced colour rendering properties and high impact display lighting. Energy efficient compact fluorescents were used in the downlights to provide high levels of general lighting, and reduced running and maintenance cost.

The overall transformation was dramatic, and both sales staff and management in the store have been keen to express their delight with the new scheme which resulted in significant increases in footfall and sales revenue within each department.
