A wide selection of light fittings from SKL have been used to enhance the newly built Lanhydrock Hotel located in the heart of Cornwall's rolling countryside on the outskirts of the old county town of Bodmin, featuring a new bistro and extensive conference facilities to complement its beautiful 18 hole golf course.Specified by Bell Slater Ltd, who were responsible for the overall design, the lighting was essential in creating the right ambience, so different types of luminaire were selected to achieve the effects required in the design scheme for each area. The project consisted of a new bedroom wing and hotel reception to one end of the existing club house and the addition of a bistro restaurant to the other, overlooking the golf course. Tara Bickerdike, from Bell Slater Ltd, commented "The aim was to create a warm and welcoming feel for the bedrooms and dining areas. The lighting is very important and forms part of the total scheme, the fittings chosen not only for their aesthetic properties but also for the overall effects they will add to the scheme, along with the flexibility of lighting levels".
For the bedrooms, Timber low energy headboard fittings, Satin Nickel low energy desk lamps and Satin Nickel LED reading lights from SKL have been used to provide discreet illumination whilst maintaining an overall design theme. Satin Nickel low energy, dual wall brackets and Timber low energy floor standing lamps have been used to enhance the décor in the reception and Bistro restaurant. Lighting was considered one of the most important elements of the design scheme and was required to incorporate energy efficient lamp sources, with total cost of ownership being a primary consideration.
With this in mind, compact fluorescent lamp options have been used where possible in conjunction with dimming controls where viable. As different fittings are connected to different lighting circuits, lighting levels can also be adjusted depending on the amount of available natural light in different weather conditions and seasons. This offers maximum flexibility for the user and savings in both operating costs and energy as only the necessary lighting fixtures are used and energy consumption is kept to the most efficient levels possible. Long life, compact fluorescent and LED lamps have been utilised throughout to reduce maintenance costs and increase energy efficiency.
Richard Timme of Bell Slater Ltd added "SKL were able to offer solutions in response to our brief and manufacture fittings which met with the specific needs of our design. SKL provided a flexible and responsive service, supplying a variety of fittings at competitive prices".
