The replacement of existing lamps with Megaman PAR 38 and GU10 directional compact fluorescent lamps has helped the owners of the Duke of Yorks cinema in Brighton reduce energy consumption by 10% and reduce maintenance costs. The re-lamping will save an estimated £777.00 per annum at 10 pence per kW and a staggering 4 tonnes of C02. Megaman's lamps have been incorporated in a variety of fittings to provide illumination for the bar area and exterior signage. In addition to this, Megaman lamps have been used to highlight the ‘forthcoming feature' signage, whilst coloured lamps illuminate the perimeter of the screen. The life expectancy of the lamps, 10,000 hours for the PAR 38's and 15,000 for the GU10's, will greatly reduce maintenance costs as re-lamping cycles are greatly extended.
Thaddeus Dell, from The Best Bulb Company, who specified the Megaman lamps commented "The project was interesting as the customer had such diverse requirements and Megaman could offer so many energy saving solutions. The results are functional yet eye-catching and will be enjoyed by thousands of visitors to the cinema".
Megaman GU10 lamps incorporate the company's patented Ingenium technology, ensuring instant, flicker-free start with enhanced light output – as well as a very compact design. The lamps feature a built-in reflector to emulate the directional light output of a spotlight, providing a cost-effective alternative to high energy, high heat output mains and low voltage halogen lamps.
