LED module chains from TridonicAtco are playing an important role in the mood lighting at Seerestaurant Rorschach restaurant on the banks of Lake Constance, an idyllic setting where Switzerland, Germany and Austria converge. The 40 year old building is part of a complex that boasts its own harbour and landing stage, offering a culinary and cultural voyage of discovery.The Seerestaurant Rorschach was completely gutted, until only the load-bearing concrete structure was left standing, and then totally rebuilt with eight very distinct areas, all emphasised by dramatic and reconfigurable lighting. The large Pulaneer room has space for 170 people and is located on the ground floor along with a gelateria and the terraced Café Lago which has two glass walls backlit with LED module chains that mimic the changing colours and moods of natural daylight. The Regatta Lounge, Terrace and the Aqua Fine Dining gourmet restaurant are also located on the ground floor. There is a jazz and theatre basement and a wine cellar that can be used for functions, both of which have decorative plasterboard arches. The kitchens are both located on the first floor at the 'hub' of the building.
The 50m sq. glass wall that shines out from the Café Bar area in ever changing colours utilises 85 D511 LED module chains from TridonicAtco, with a total of 42 K240 and K211 electronic converters to ensure that the RGB LED's are operated perfectly. D511 LED RGB module chains specialise in backlighting surfaces and have such compact dimensions that they can be used in depths of just 150mm to provide absolutely uniform illumination. TridonicAtco's LED RGB module chains are also extremely energy efficient, a low thermal output and have the benefit of almost maintenance-free operation, which reduces operating costs considerably.
A common theme runs through all of the rooms with their different furnishing styles and fluorescent lamps are obscured from view in arches to provide shadow-free background illumination. Accent lighting is provided by additional narrow-beam spotlights with LV halogen lamps which create pools of light which, together with the background lighting, add interest to the rooms with their interplay of light and shadow. To create the right ambience for different uses of the rooms at different times of the day and night, all the light sources and control gear are networked via a DALI lighting control system. The system enables different lighting moods to be programmed so that the atmosphere of a space can be change from time to time.
The clever use of light was an important aspect of this project and the skillful use of light and colour at the entrance itself signals from a distance that this is a popular place for people to meet. The LED module chains, Electronic converters and DALI control components from TridonicAtco are having a stimulating influence on the entire dining experience.
