As an upmarket, global brand, BMW has an image of efficiency and modernity that must be maintained across all its showroom facilities. So the design for the new BMW showroom in Stockport, made extensive use of lighting systems from Concord:marlin, to underline this contemporary image, while providing a stimulating experience for customers. The new lighting met strict BMW specifications, in terms of light levels and energy-efficiency.The lighting design was completed by the Concord:marlin design team, working with architects, Taylor Design, and contractors Thermatic – and covered all the key areas, including the showroom, front-of-house offices and meeting rooms, administrative areas and workshops.
Due to its varied ceiling heights, the showroom required two different lighting solutions -- recessed Storelyte downlights, to add a degree of sparkle to the cars -- and suspended Trio pendants, which create attractive lighting features within the high ceiling areas, while boosting overall light levels. A row of 150W HIT-CE versions of Trio pendants, with an additional safety glass, are also used in the main entrance area, to 'guide' customers to the main reception desk.
The front-of-house offices, meeting rooms and finance offices, with their extensive PC systems, all required LG7-compliant lighting. The preferred solution was Officelyte, due to its excellent levels of performance in illuminating the vertical surfaces and ceiling. The luminaire has a unique prismatic diffusing panel, which guarantees maximum transmittance with no visual discomfort – and high LOR.
