Having originally provided lighting control equipment for the building shell and core, Simmtronic has now supplied the electrical contractor, T.Clarke Plc, with a fully addressable DALI lighting control system for the CatB fit-out of Allen & Overy's new London headquarters. One of the world's largest law firms. Allen & Overy is moving into its purpose-built 1.1million sq.ft. office development in Bishops Square, occupying all but four half floors which it is sub-letting.This extensive DALI scheme has a number of advanced features and a newly developed SPECS Manager web browser allows facilities managers for the first time to view a graphics override system and access the lighting control software from anywhere in the world. For convenience and ease of maintenance the client wanted to avoid all sub-addressing, so Simmtronic's nine output lighting control modules (LCMs) have been installed and configured to one luminaire per port. The DALI ballasts provide error feedback capability to alert staff of any lamp malfunction.
In open plan areas the controls are predominantly presence-based whilst in the hundreds of ancillary offices switching ON is manual with absence detection for OFF. Perimeter lighting is daylight linked for energy saving. Other features and functions include AV interfacing in the auditorium, scene setting in meeting rooms and load shedding is built in and programmed to dim lights to 50%. Lights also switch on in response to activated fire alarms.
Using Simmtronic's X-feature LCM, an interface with fan coil units has been created via an output from the LCMs. Each LCM has two changeover relays which are used to hold on fan coils in response to presence detection and turn them off when lights go out.
Simmtronic lighting controls have been employed throughout the interior of this major office development and beyond to include all exterior lighting relating to the building. The company is also providing the client with a comprehensive training programme so it retains the capability to self-maintain the complete lighting control system.
