Following extensive renovation of the Pope's audience chamber at the Vatican, Pope Benedict XVI is now switching on the lights using gesis® technology provided by Wieland Electric. The audience chamber is located in the Apostolic Palace, which also houses the Sistine Chapel, papal apartments, offices and parts of the Vatican Museum. During the summer of 2006, the audience chamber in Paul VI hall underwent extensive electrical refurbishment. The work included the installation of pluggable luminaires connected by several thousand pre-fabricated cables, distribution boards and connectors supplied by Wieland Electric S.r.l. The products were specially adapted for the Italian market.
gesis® offers a simple plug-in connection system for the luminaires so that components are delivered to site as pre-fabricated devices. They are then simply plugged together on site, with the design of the devices ensuring that they can only be connected the right way round.
Experience shows that use of gesis® can reduce the overall cost of installation by 30%, compared to traditional techniques.
From the end user perspective, it also offers greater flexibility in the future as systems can be easily adapted and extended as needs change, while the in-built 'intelligence' of the gesis® connectors makes fault finding easy.
