Venture Lighting has supplied its Whitelux metal halide lamps for the refurbishment of The Victoria Shopping Centre in Llandudno, the premier shopping centre for North Wales. Benefiting from an excellent tourist industry to the seaside resort of Llandudno, the shopping centre is an enclosed, single level centre of approximately 100,000 sq ft which also boasts elegant Victorian style tea rooms and Llandudno's principal multi-storey shoppers car park. Lighting maintenance specialist Gerry Taylor of S.P. Lamps, Llandudno, was asked to provide a solution to improve the illumination without increasing costs. "We were asked to come up with a solution that would satisfy two criteria, to improve the standards of lighting in the hall and save money on operating costs for the lighting," explained Gerry.
The existing installation used 70W and 150W high pressure sodium (SON) lamps housed in copper Victorian lanterns and Gerry Taylor recommended changing these to Venture's 70W and 150W Whitelux lamps with ignitors, utilising the existing fittings. "We calculated this strategy would save a considerable amount of energy, while raising the quality of the lighting," Gerry continued.
A total of 50 x 70W and 40 x 150W Whitelux were used for the project and, in a local survey halfway through the installation, shoppers unanimously agreed that the new section not only improved the colour of the merchandise but also felt more cheerful!
