Universal Fibre Optics has supplied outdoor feature lighting for a private house in Ireland. Two areas have fibre optics fitted:
The patio has an unusual starry-floor effect which is achieved using sheathed 1mm polymer fibre and UFO Sparkle Flush polycarbonate end-lenses mounted though the stone paving. The fibre is illuminated using a UFO Aurora 100W halogen light source fitted with a twinkle effect wheel and mounted in an outdoor enclosure under some seating.
The system lighting the sundial uses 6 x E1 stainless steel eyeball fittings mounted into back-boxes set into the paving. A 150W metal halide light source with 3000K (warm) lamp mounted in and enclosure is used to drive the 6mm glass harness to give a bright illumination while
blending in with the warm halogen lamps used in the surrounding area. Four of the fittings light the base of the sundial plinth while two are aimed at the top.
Both solutions are low maintenance as the light sources can be located in a convenient location for lamp replacement and the end points of light delivery require no further attention during their lifespan.
