DaimlerChrysler now has a new facility in Milton Keynes designed by Building Services Design. This clean open new building provides reception, vehicle showroom and office space that unifies the existing buildings around it, enhanced by a bright and elegant lighting solution.Trilux provided the feature suspended pendants, from the TCD range. These were chosen for their clean lines and bright mirrored chrome finish which works well with the chrome details on the vehicles being displayed. The mounting heights of the pendant and all other luminaires in the full height display areas have been closely coordinated with the Mercedes-Beinz range of commercial vehicles, to ensure adequate clearance above the cabs of trucks.
Within the remaining single height display areas, the client's brief was that the space would primarily be for vehicle display, with occasional use for large meetings or presentations. This called for the lighting to be able to provide accent lighting to display the vehicles, as well as providing an even illumination for other times and uses. To achieve both of these requirements a Trilux T-200 lighting track system was specified, complying of two separately switched lighting systems. When the space is used as a vehicle showroom, linear T5 fluorescent lamps within each section of the track are illuminated to provide general direct and indirect light components, in addition 70W metal halide directional spotlights provide strong accent lighting on the details of the vehicles. When the space is used for meetings and presentations, only the linear fluorescent sections are used.
To meet the new stringent carbon emission energy efficiency regulations the building incorporates as much natural daylight as possible and most of the lighting is provided with daylight monitoring and presence detecting control systems.
The lighting within this contemporary and dynamic space has been well designed to provide an stylish and efficient solution in keeping with the core qualities of the DaimlerChrysler family.
