Universal Fibre Optics were contracted by the Shangri La's Group, owners of the Barr Al Jissah Resort Hotel in Muscat, Oman, to provide various stunning fibre optic features to enhance the world standing of this exclusive luxury resort. Working to a concept devised by Lighting Design Partnership International (LDPI), UFO manufactured the features and completed the site installation alongside Preciosa, Turners and Carillion who were the main contractor.
The Grand Ballroom contains nine ceiling features with endlit fibre optics illuminating suspended crystals while a similar arrangement forms a tiered two storey Grand Chandelier. There are also: fibre optic star ceilings in the all-day dining room and Moroccan Restaurant; cracked glass side glow fibre in the cocktail lounge; light tubes to the exterior Zanzi door and Tequila Bar gantry. Crerar Adams, the lead engineer on this project, says "This project demonstrates the versatility of fibre optics to produce stunning lighting effects in a leisure application while having a low maintenance requirement. This is essential where regular access is difficult."
This is the largest project so far which Universal Fibre Optics have completed in the middle east, an area where the company is rapidly expanding its influence in the specialty lighting market.
