Kingston Bridge lighting solution cuts out glare

Kingston Bridge lighting solution cuts out glare
Projectors from Sill Lighting have provided a stunning lighting solution for Kingston Bridge that is sensitive to both its architecture and river users.

The new lighting is the final piece of a major refurbishment of the bridge which has been strengthened and widened to accommodate modern traffic levels.
The Royal Borough of Kingston upon Thames wanted to illuminate the bridge to enhance the architecture of the Grade II* listed bridge after dark. Lighting consultant for the project, Tony Price of Capita Symonds, selected Sill for its wide range of optics and spill light control equipment, as it was essential to ensure glare control for river users on this stretch of the Thames which is classified as 'dark'.

Sill's 495, 490 and 491 series projectors are mounted on short columns near to the riverbank at each end of the bridge, painting the bridge with a subtle wash of blue light achieved using bonded-in blue glass filters.
Mr Price comments, " Several trials had to be undertaken to overcome these project constraints. It was Sill's experience in glare control as well as their flexibility to assist with the trials that enabled us to come up with an effective solution."
