Lighting up Hexham

Lighting up Hexham
An impressive new interior lighting scheme has recently been completed at Northumberland's Hexham Abbey using fittings from Light Projects. This historical Abbey - in part dating back to Saxon times serves both as a Parish Church as well as a popular tourist attraction.

The architects were Butler Fuller Alsop Williams Architects with Electrical Engineers The Ian Campbell Partnership. The scheme was designed and specified by Phoenix Large/Lightmatters.

The main lighting of the walls and floor of the church was achieved using a series of 100W AR111 tungsten halogen Raylights from the Light Projects Group, with eggcrate louvres to prevent glare. These were tucked away in the clerestory arches to reduce their visibility but without impairing their effectiveness.

The RayLight is a perfect choice for this type of application. Mounted individually or on multi-circuit or single circuit tracks, the fittings are easy to focus and maintain and contain an optional integral dimmer. They also feature pan and tilt movement operated via a simple and effective one-handed locking mechanism for focusing and retention of the selected angle - even when relamping.
