Queens Park Hospital Chooses Whitecroft Lighting

Queens Park Hospital Chooses Whitecroft Lighting
A wide selection of luminaires from Whitecroft Lighting will be used to light wards, consultation rooms, offices and circulation areas at the new extension to Queen's Park Hospital in Blackburn. The extension is being built under the Private Finance Initiative (PFI) and the luminaires were specified for their ability to meet the hospital's requirements for high quality lighting with low cost of ownership and an aesthetically pleasing design.

In order to achieve high levels of energy efficiency, T5 linear fluorescent and compact fluorescent light sources are being used throughout. The lighting scheme was designed and installed by contractors Haden Young.

In the wards, Whitecroft's Mirage recessed downlighters with compact fluorescent lamps will provide both ambient lighting and night-lighting. In operating theatres, switchable recessed Surgeon T5 luminaires were selected for their flexibility. Specially designed optics and switchable controls allow different lighting levels to be selected for different activities, while eliminating glare. Consultation rooms are to use Whitecroft's Spear recessed T5 luminaires, providing the required lighting levels for this application.

In corridor areas, recessed Broadspread luminaires with an asymmetrical light distribution will ensure high levels of vertical illuminance, creating a bright and spacious feel. These have been specially fitted with an additional light source to provide night-lighting.

In office areas, Whitecroft's Vivant proved the ideal choice for meeting the requirements of LG3, while creating a pleasant working environment by minimising distracting contrasts and maximising visual comfort. Designed to project into the space by only 28mm, Vivant combines a smoothly graduated wall wash with a spill of light across the ceiling to produce a soft edge and reduce contrast between surfaces.

Throughout the hospital, stand alone emergency lighting is to be used in conjunction with Whitecroft's Easytest intelligent self-testing modules. Easytest is capable of testing automatically to BS5266, IS3217 and prEN50172
