Shedding light on history

The impressive new £30 million Medieval and Renaissance Galleries in London's Victoria & Albert Museum, designed by architects McInnes Usher McKnight, has opened with a blaze of light. Hundreds of the popular D3 and Discharge Raylight lighting fittings as well as Roblon Fibre Optics have been supplied by the Light Projects Group. The illumination for the 10 galleried continuous display, which spans the east wing of the Museum, was specified by lighting designers DHA Designs.

Raylights, designed and manufactured in the UK, are ideal for this type of application. They are particularly suitable for museums, art galleries, retail and other showcase applications where enhancement of displays, high performance and visual appeal are of paramount importance.

The D3 Raylight uses ARIII lamps for displays while the Discharge Raylight uses Metal Halide lamps for cleaning, night time and security illumination. All of the Raylights are mounted on three-circuit tracks which were also supplied by Light Projects.

Roblon's 22 Framing and Gobo Spots fixtures were powered by two FL 150 DMX light sources projectors and DMX-controlled dimmers using fibre optics. These included special lenses for long distance high intensity and extra tight focusing.
