If a Picture Speaks a Thousand Words

Then a picture of a library probably speaks a million, at least!

The new Middleton Circle Library in Carshalton, Surrey, was a recent Redshift Photography project, commissioned by architects Curl La Tourelle.

The brief was to capture the eco-friendly building in a realistic way, showing people using and enjoying the space, as well as shots taken from the interior looking out on a sunny day. The latter involved the use of High Dynamic Range technique to cope with the brightness ratio. David took a range of exposures for each picture and blended them to show the scene as it would be perceived by the human eye, thus retaining all the detail and eliminating glare.

A major part of the story on this project is that the building follows current architectural trends towards greener, more naturally lit spaces, and is an example of how to integrate daylight and artificial light. Just how well this works is endorsed by the final images (shown), which were taken without using any artificial lighting.

The results speak volumes!
