Company Profile:

Recycling fluorescent tubes and Lamps via Mercury Recycling can be the most economical, ethical and environmentally safe option you have. Mercury Recycling operate the largest dedicated lamp recycling facility in the UK, with the capacity to recycle 40 million lamps per annum. To put this into perspective it is estimated some 100 million lamps are distributed in the UK annually. In Mercury's advanced, state-of-the-art facility contaminants are removed from lamps and sodium neutralised; any useable lamp materials are processed and separated ready for recycling. Mercury is recovered and re-used, whilst ferrous and non-ferrous metals are recycled in industry and the glass is re-used. Other mercury bearing wastes, including switchgear, button cell batteries and medical equipment, can also be recycled at the plant.

Two of Mercury's most popular services are the all-inclusive Lampsafe and Bulbsafe services. A high density polyethylene container is delivered to site for the safe storage of used fluorescent tubes, discharge lamps and bulbs. When full the box is collected, brought back to the facility in Manchester and the spent lamps are fully recycled.

The fact that these high quality containers can be delivered by next-day courier, there is no capital outlay and the ease of ordering and use makes these services extremely popular. Although ideal for the smaller users many large office buildings, with no room for bulk storage containers, have found these services an excellent alternative.

The Lampsafe is a one price, 48 hour collection and delivery recycling service from Mercury Recycling, making it easy for businesses to comply with legislation for the safe disposal of lamps and tubes. The Lampsafe service holds up to 150 x 6ft tubes. This example shows 450 x 2ft tubes making it even more cost-effective. Each box has carrying handles, security strapping and highly visible safety labelling and the requisite European Waste Catalogue code number which is now mandatory.

The Bulbsafe service is ideal for storing discharge lamps, energy efficient bulbs and shorter fluorescent tubes. Approx 50 litre capacity. Each box has carrying handles, security strapping and highly visible safety labelling and the requisite European Waste Catalogue code number which is now mandatory.

For the larger end-user or wholesaler, fully Collapsible Heavy Duty Distribution/Storage Containers and Lockable Steel Distribution and Storage Containers are also available for use at customer's premises that will be replaced when full. Those that have discharge lamps and fluorescent tubes to dispose of but, for a variety of reasons, do not wish to have a container, or are prepared to deliver directly to our plant (24 hours notice required) can still use Mercury's services. Just advise how the lamps are currently being stored eg. boxed, palletised, loose etc. and the quantities and types where applicable eg. tubes, bulbs etc. which assists in determining the most suitable container or vehicle needed to enable the safe transportation back to Mercury's recycling facility.

Mercury provides a full end-to-end service, including all of the necessary paperwork to provide a full audit trail and meet the Hazardous Waste Regulations.
