Following a sustained increase in demand for its lighting control products and a move towards a 'lean manufacturing' programme, CP Electronics has made a major investment in new production machinery at its manufacturing base in Wembley. As a result, the company has doubled its production capacity for surface-mount products.CP is one of the few companies in the lighting control sector to carry out its own manufacturing in the UK. "If you invest in the right machinery and production processes it is just as cost effective to manufacture small to medium volumes in the UK as it is in the Far East, and this results in significant benefits to UK customers," asserts managing director Paul Mans.
"By manufacturing locally at our own premises, we can respond quickly to local demand by implementing changes whenever we need to, while retaining complete control over quality," he continued. "Similarly, we can adjust batch sizes to suit demand and we don't have to wait six weeks for the products to arrive. The end result is we are able to provide a much higher quality of service with short lead times," he added.
Significant investment has been made to achieve compliance with the ROHS (Removal of certain Hazardous Substances) Directive. This seeks to make electrical equipment easier to recycle by ensuring hazardous and toxic substances are not included in their manufacture.
