Lamina Ceramics Named Platinum ADEX Award Winner

BL-4000 Warm White LED Light Engine honored for its rich, eye-pleasing light quality

WESTAMPTON, NJ – March 27, 2006 – Lamina Ceramics, the Westampton, N.J.-based manufacturer of internationally award-winning high-brightness LED light engines, has added another top honor to its list of accolades. Lamina's BL-4000 Warm White LED light engine, launched in November 2005, has been named a Platinum award winner for Lighting in the Awards for Design Excellence (ADEX) competition, sponsored by Design Journal magazine.

ADEX is the largest and most prestigious awards program for product design of furniture, fixtures and finishes marketed to the design trade.

"The 2006-07 ADEX Awards attracted upwards of 500 companies submitting more than 1,500 innovative new products," said John Moses, executive director for ADEX. "The ADEX award has recognized several outstanding product designs over the years, and the BL-4000 Warm White is no exception."

As the latest addition to the company's internationally award-winning product line, Lamina's BL-4000 Warm White LED light engine features a warm, eye-pleasing light quality similar to popular halogen and tungsten incandescent lamps. More than 3 times brighter than any other commercially available warm white LED array, the BL-4000 Warm White delivers 95 lumens – nearly as much light as a 10 Watt halogen bulb – while consuming only 5.3 Watts of electricity. Its usable lifetime (rated at 50% of original brightness) is 3 to 4 times longer than the longest lived halogen. It is smaller than a U.S. nickel, as are the RGB+ (red-green-blue) and cool white models in Lamina's BL-4000 series.

"The introduction of the BL-4000 Warm White marked a milestone in the solid state lighting industry, proving that very bright warm white light can be produced by an LED light engine," said Taylor Adair, president and CEO of Lamina Ceramics. "On behalf of our engineers and production colleagues, we are honored to have been recognized by ADEX and are dedicated to growing our award-winning product lines."

All of the entries in each of the 25 ADEX categories have potential for three award levels of platinum, gold or silver. Judges awarded points to the BL-4000 Warm White based on form and function, and total points earned determined its award level. All winners will be published in the April 2006 issue of Design Journal, the international trade publication for interior designers, architects and facility managers.

Lamina's LED light engines are manufactured by combining high brightness LEDs from industry-leading LED manufacturers with Lamina's proprietary packaging technology, multilayer low temperature co-fired ceramic-on-metal (LTCC-M). LTCC-M is a breakthrough in thermal performance for LED packaging technology, a key factor in determining LED life and reliability. Unmatched thermal performance coupled with package interconnectivity allows Lamina to densely cluster multiple LEDs to achieve exceptionally high luminous intensity in very small footprints. Other Lamina light engines are available in white, RGB and monochrome up to 100W, and also in custom packages up to 1000W.

During the past year, Lamina Ceramics set two successive world records for brightness with its Aterion LED light engines in RGB and white – the brightest ever produced – at 13,300 and 28,000 lumens, respectively. The company's BL-4000 RGB+ light engine was honored as Best Technical Innovation and was judged the Best New LED Product at LightFair International 2005, the world's largest architectural and commercial lighting trade show and conference.
