Riegens Lighting has been helping its client MITIE, the support services company in its activities to provide funding and materials for the refurbishment of the Bansang Hospital in The Gambia. The village of Bansang is located in a very isolated area 200 miles inland in The Gambia, West Africa. Conditions are difficult even by African standards, which impacts on the level of care available. However, due to the amazing work by the Bansang Hospital Appeal, the standard of care has risen to such an extent that the hospital is now a workplace of choice for qualified doctors and nurses.
Due to the remote location of the hospital, accommodation is a problem for the medical staff. So, MITIE has now started work on its next project, the new restoration of the derelict Colonial house. Built in 1936, the building was previously occupied by the District Medical Officer when The Gambia was a British Colony and was abandoned over 30 years ago. This will be known as MITIE House and will serve as new accommodation for medical staff.
MITIE has raised a phenomenal amount of money for the project through donations and pledges, with the help of its suppliers, who have also donated much needed products for use on-site. Riegens was happy to support this worthy cause and has supplied 30 of its Concido downlighters to meet the specification for the hospital.
Over the last six months a dedicated project team has carried out the design and planning of this project. The materials are already on their way to the hospital ready for the project team to travel out to the Gambia to complete the project in December.
