General advice for buyers and specifiers...

Non maintained emergency lighting is activated only when the mains supply fails. This is different from the maintained option where the lamp is illuminated at all times and continues to operate on battery power after the mains supply has failed. IP20 refers to the degree of protection and resistance to the ingress of dust and mositure. IP20 emergency lighting fittings would normally only be suitable for use in an interior environment where there are no particular requirements for resistance to dust or moisture.
